Traditonal Hosted Solutions:
The ICON to the right represents the topology of other hosted solutions. This topology, although safe, isn't very scalable. Depending on network design and internet connectivity this design will consistently degrade over time. The degradation of connectivity occurs as more and more requests are sent to the server and small lags (packet loss or packet drops) begin to build, causing big lags or jitter (interference as packets collide with other packets) which eventually causes a desktop failure. Many companies have tried to retrofit their outdated client server technology by simply adding VNC, Citrix or remote desktop through a VPN. When you use VNC, Citrix and Remote desktop a user must maintain a persistent or consistent connection to the collection system and the database to view and update files. Many of these connections even when configured correctly can use between 80-120k of bandwidth as remote images from the distant database are sent to the local desktop. If you have a T-1 with no other traffic, email, web browsing or a phone system, at best you would only be able to have 12-14 users on a single connection. This isn't scalable.

• Line jitter is created by this type of connection topology which slows page refresh
